If You Want To Be Great… Imitate

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Imitation is also one of the most successful forms of education. From childhood, we are predisposed to imitating the habits of those we admire.  The same is true for adolescence and adulthood.

If you want to be a drunk, the best place to learn how to be a drunk is by sitting at the bar next to the best drunk you know and imitating his habits.  Likewise, if you want to be a success, find the most successful person you know and Spend as much time with her as possible.  Learn her habits, listen to her stories. Try to emulate everything he does and has done in the past because she has been there before.  Better to learn from another’s mistakes than to make them on your own.

Having a mentor is a valuable thing, and if you have the ability to get their personal attention, then better for you.  Ryan Holiday writes about finding a mentor in this post. Most importantly, learn the habits that successful people have and imitate those to the best of your ability.
